The Overlapping Illness Alliance (OIA) is a coalition of charities working to improve recognition, care and support for people of all ages living with complex, overlapping conditions.

We are an alliance of charities representing people with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), Long Covid, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder, Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS) and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)

About us

Our Vision

Our vision is access to high quality healthcare for all people with overlapping illnesses

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to ensure a united voice—advocating for equitable access to high-quality healthcare, greater medical understanding, and compassionate care for overlapping conditions. Through collaboration, we drive systemic change, influence healthcare policies, and improve patient outcomes.

Strategic Objectives

  1. To share best practice and leverage mutual opportunities for the benefit of the overlapping illnesses represented by members
  2. To campaign for a healthcare pathway for people with overlapping illnesses represented by the group

Our Values

The OIA values align with well-established global health principles and must be upheld by all members:

  1. Human rights-based approach – working together to advance and protect the rights of people with overlapping conditions and secure equity
  2. Collaborative – work in partnership with the people with overlapping conditions we individually serve, partners and the broader health community to achieve our purpose
  3. Transparent and accountable – effectively governed with clear accountability and decision-making through a collaborative agreement
  4. Independent – an independent body working to achieve mutually agreed purpose and objectives.
